The 2011 Mazda RX-8 uses 5W-20 engine oil for both the 4.2 and 4.6 liter engines. Oil changes should be performed every 5000 to 7500 miles depending on the driving conditions of the vehicle.
Engine oil is rated by three separate organizations. The Society of Automotive Engineers, the American Petroleum Institute and the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee. These organizations determine the weight or consistency of each type of during cold engine operation and when the engine is running at operating temperature.
