Fundamentals of Fire Fighter Skills

Fundamentals of Fire Fighter Skills thumbnail
Basic skills are integral for firefighters.

"Fundamentals of Fire Fighters Skills" is a textbook for firefighting students who are learning the basics of firefighting and what is required to do the job safely and efficiently. This book outlines various techniques and skills that every firefighter, from student to seasoned veteran, should know.

  1. Chapters

    • There are 33 different chapters in "Fundamentals of Fire Fighter Skills," ranging from instruction on how to assemble, disassemble and operate equipment to how to perform CPR on someone who has been knocked unconscious in the event of a fire. These instructions can be read and studied in the book, preparing student firefighters for hands-on training that will use these pieces of equipment and prepare them for their Level 1 or Level 2 firefighter tests. These chapters can also be accessed through an online version of this textbook.

    Explanations of Procedures

    • A important thing for all firefighting students to know and understand is not only how to do the necessary things that firefighters must do but why they need to do the things that firefighters must do. "Fundamentals of Fire Fighter Skills" teaches this as well, giving explanations per chapter as to why firefighters must know these procedures or do particular things in emergency situations. There are also explanations in the textbook from seasoned firefighting veterans giving specific stories and situations in which knowing these skills or procedures saved lives and property.

    Chapter Pretests

    • While the exams which are given to Level 1 and 2 firefighters are changed regularly, "Fundamentals of Fire Fighter Skills" gives pretests for each chapter, so students can hone their skills in each of the 33 chapters to make sure they have full understanding of each section. Answers are also provided at the end of each pretest so students can see how well they are doing. There is a page reference within the text for each answer to these pretests, so that if an answer is missed, the section can be reread so studious students don't miss it on the actual test.
