Top Types of Alcohol to Give As a Gift

Save

Premium alcohol is a gift that can be given for a variety of occasions. Whether it's a birthday, housewarming celebration or a holiday, like Christmas or New Year's Eve, any recipient who likes to indulge in a drink now and then will appreciate a fine bottle. Give a bottle of some high-quality liquor that the receiver is sure to like. Tequila, wine and vodka offer a variety of options for gifts.

Tequila

  • Patron is considered one of the finest tequilas in the world. The three different types of Patron are Silver, Reposado and Anejo, and each has a distinct taste that's different from the others. A bottle of one of these premium tequilas makes a good gift. Or, if you can't decide on just one, give a sampler package consisting of all three. Tequila is generally paired with Mexican cuisines, and you can drink it straight up with a lime or in an authentic margarita or other cocktail.

Patron tequila is known as a smooth liquor that has a fresh, clean, top-quality taste. Tequila lovers should expect to pay a higher price for this brand. Some other good brands are VooDoo Tiki Blue Dragon tequila, with its kiwi-infused taste, or Clase Azul Reposado tequila, which is pricey but popular among true tequila connoisseurs.

Wine

  • Wine is a great gift to give, as the variety is virtually endless. Whether it's French, California or Italian wine, there is something to fit everyone's tastes. You can also find a decent wine to fit nearly any budget. Pick up a chianti, pinot noir, syrah or cabernet. Or, for an alternative gift idea, give a gift package consisting of wines from popular wine regions of France, like Bordeaux and Burgundy. Or give a trio of California wines consisting of a chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and a reserve meritage, each with distinctive flavors, from various regions of California. Another idea is a combination of Italian wines, such as sparkling prosecco, pinot grigio and Sicily's Baglio di Pianetto Ramione.

Vodka

  • Vodka makes a great gift because of its versatility. It can be mixed in many different ways to create a variety of drink choices, like with crisp soda water or with juices like orange, cranberry, grapefruit or tomato. You can make a martini, cosmopolitan or virtually any other type of cocktail with vodka. The combinations are endless. However, when giving vodka as a gift, you want to make sure it is of high quality.

Grey Goose is a top-shelf vodka that is commonly used for cocktails. Try Indio Wasabi Flavored Vodka, which has a sweet taste and is often used for martinis or a bloody mary. If you are interested in giving a very expensive premium vodka, try Kauffman Luxury Vintage Vodka, which is made in France with all-natural ingredients. This vodka is very hard to come by, though, and it may require getting on a waiting list.
