Richmond Chinese Folk Dance Society
-
Chinese culture offers a long tradition of dance. These dances range from festival and seasonal-specific dances performed during holidays and rites, the military themed "Martial Arts Sword Dance," and movements and steps that celebrate or express beliefs, life, birth and work. The Richmond Chinese Folk Dance Society's mission seeks to cultivate and promote Chinese culture by preserving these dance forms and presenting Chinese dance culture to the Richmond community during local festivals and events. To that end, the Society invites interested residents of all ages to attend their weekly meetings each Thursday at 7 p.m. or Sunday at 10 a.m., which they host in the dance studio of the Richmond Cultural Centre.

Scottish Dancing in Richmond
-
The tradition of Scottish Dancing dates back to the 1400s, with the development of Highland Dancing. Later developments in the traditions include the 19th century waltz-like formations in Scottish country dancing, in which large groups of male-female pairs participate in partner-exchanging choreography. If you'd like to learn how to perform any of these, Richmond offers several groups devoted to these traditions. From September to June, the Richmond Reelers Scottish Country Dance Group holds weekly two-hour meetings every Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. at the Richmond Cultural Centre. Richmond's Scottish Dancers host weekly get-togethers that start at 7:30 p.m. each Thursday at the Tomsett Elementary School. Both groups welcome walk-ins.
