Jobs Similar to the CIA

Employees of the Central Intelligence Agency collect and analyze information and perform covert operations under direction from the President of the United States. A wide range of job opportunities is available within the Agency, including legal work; political, military and economic analyses; and translation and information gathering in the clandestine service department. If you're interested in work similar to that done by the CIA, check with other law enforcement agencies.

FBI

  • The Federal Bureau of Investigation shares some similarities with the CIA. The Bureau, like the CIA, performs investigations, gathers intelligence and analyzes material. The FBI employs more than 30,000 workers in 56 field offices, 400 satellite offices and 50 legal attaché locations. If the overseas aspect of working with the CIA appeals to you, its legal attaché offices are located around the world. Employees at these locations work as liaisons with local law enforcement groups to fight terrorism and organized crime. Like the Central Intelligence Agency, the FBI employs special agents, scientists, linguists and analysts.

ICE

  • The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is part of the Department of Homeland Security. ICE has 19,000 people in its 400 U.S. and international offices. Their special agents investigate human trafficking, smuggling, terrorism, arms dealing and other crimes related to customs laws and immigration. In addition to criminal investigators, ICE utilizes intelligence analysts to look for patterns of criminal activity and to identify potential terrorist threats.

ATF

  • The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is a law enforcement agency that focuses on crimes related to illegal arms dealing, arson, gangs, terrorism and violent crime. Like the Central Intelligence Agency, the ATF employs special agents who investigate and gather information. They also employ forensic scientists, intelligence analysts and attorneys.
