Lively decorations can brighten up the exterior of your home during the winter months.

The cold and darkness of winter can often leave the outside of your home looking dull and bland. Make your home look bright and cheery, and welcome guests by dressing up its exterior with holiday or seasonal inspired decorations. Using some of these decor ideas will help you fight a case of the winter dull-drums. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Pine Roping

    • Pine roping is a simple way to liven up your home and welcome the holidays and the season of winter. Artificial pine roping can be purchased at your local craft or home goods store and is an economical option, as you can reuse it for years to come. For a visually and olfactory appealing option, use real pine roping, which can be bought at your local garden center. If you have a front porch, swag the roping from the posts or wrap it around the posts. Another option is to use it to frame your front door. Add interest to the roping by affixing bows, ribbons or holly berries to it. Make it a decoration that can be enjoyed during both the day and night by wrapping rope lights around it.

    Urns

    • From your local home goods store, purchase urns that can stand up to the elements. Any size urn will work for this decoration idea, or you can add interest by grouping different sizes together. Fill the urns with greenery, such as pine tree clippings from your yard. Collect twigs and thin branches from around your yard and spray paint them white or cover them in glue and coat them with glitter. Once dry, haphazardly place them in the urn. Add even more interest by placing faux red berries or faux red apples to the arrangement. Tie a red bow around the outside of the urn. Flank your front door with the urns or position them on your front steps. If you make several of them, you can use them to line your front walkway.

    Decorated Trees

    • No matter what type of trees you have in your front yard, adding decorations to them can spice up your home during the winter months. Begin by wrapping strings of lights around the trees--opt for solid colors of white, green or red, or you can use multicolored lights. In addition to the lights, you can adorn the trees with an array of decorations. Hang brightly colored Christmas tree decorations from the branches. Wrap thick ribbons of crimson, gold or silver around the trees. Display glittery faux fruit from tree boughs.
