Diners at waterfront cafes along San Antonio’s River Walk watch tourists float by on riverboat tours. Graceful arched bridges span the river and tall cypress trees shade visitors strolling the paths. A short walk from attractions like the Alamo and the Spanish Governor’s Palace, the River Walk is open year-round. While there are a number of luxury hotels on the River walk in San Antonio, the pleasure of having a private balcony with a river view gives visitors a full-on River Walk experience.
Mokara Hotel and Spa
Rooms at Mokara, a 2014 Forbes Four-Star Hotel, are decorated with local artwork and colonial furnishings. Standard river view rooms and suites have private balconies and Jacuzzi tubs. Suites have private bedrooms, sitting areas with views of the river and separate living areas. Some spa rooms have balconies. The hotel’s 17,000-square-foot spa, a sophisticated, relaxing space with separate areas for men and women, has whirlpool tubs, saunas and steam rooms.
Omni La Mansion del Rio
The Spanish colonial-style La Mansion del Rio, a completely non-smoking property with a courtyard swimming pool, provides spa privileges for quests at the adjacent Mokara Hotel and Spa. The onsite AAA four-diamond restaurant, La Canarias, has a riverfront dining area and specializes in locally sourced cuisine. While standard and deluxe rooms don’t have views of the river, two classes of rooms have balconies with River Walk views. Guests booking Ambassador Riverview rooms have complimentary access to the spa.
Hilton Palacio del Rio
Every room at the high-rise Hilton Palacio del Rio has a balcony with either a river or city view. Rooms have either a single king-sized bed or two doubles, Wi-Fi, an upscale bathroom and comfortable workspace. The hotel has a fitness center, outdoor swimming pool overlooking the River Walk and a whirlpool tub. Dining options at the Hilton include a coffee shop, an Irish pub with nightly sing-alongs and a lobby piano bar, as well as two restaurants on the River Walk.
Riverwalk Plaza Hotel & Suites
A fourth-floor, heated outdoor pool is the centerpiece of the boutique Riverwalk Plaza Hotel & Suites. Personal touches include a lending library, Tommy Bahama bath products and cookies on check-in. Original artwork and a massive mural decorate the walls of the public areas and private rooms. Not all of the rooms at the Riverwalk Plaza Hotel have balconies -- many of the deluxe rooms have balconies with either river or courtyard views. Presidential suites have river view balconies, separate bedrooms and kitchenettes.
The Westin Riverwalk, San Antonio
Guests at the Westin Riverwalk have a variety of rooms with balconies to choose from. Most overlook the River Walk, but a few have views of the hotel’s outdoor heated swimming pool. If you splurge on a luxury suite, you’ll have a large balcony, a 1,560-square-foot suite with seating for six at a dinner table, a wet bar and two bathrooms. The hotel has a fitness room, lobby bar and a day spa, where guests can get a massage, facial or manicure.
Wyndham Garden San Antonio Riverwalk/Museum Reach
Comfy, brightly colored lounge chairs surround the riverfront outdoor pool at the Wyndham Garden San Antonio Riverwalk. King and queen suites and several handicapped-accessible rooms have balconies overlooking the River Walk. All of the rooms have oversized windows, mini-fridges and large, flat-panel TVs. The hotel’s riverfront restaurant highlights Cajun cooking, and a café is open for breakfast daily. Wi-Fi is available throughout the completely non-smoking hotel.
