Kentucky Technical Colleges
Kentucky's system of technical and community colleges offer certificate and degree programs to thousands of students statewide. The Kentucky Community and Technical College System fact book notes that 16 colleges had a total enrollment of almost 90,000 students systemwide in 2009. Kentucky's technical colleges offer programs of study in fields ranging from nursing and liberal arts to radiology technician training and computer and information sciences.

Bluegrass Community & Technical College offers more than 200 academic programs to approximately 13,000 students on six campuses in the greater Lexington and Winchester metropolitan areas. Automotive technology, cosmetology, dental hygiene, practical nursing, information technology, phlebotomy and equine studies are among the certificate and degree programs. The student body is nearly 60 percent female and evenly split between full-time students and those who attend classes part time. More than half of BCTC's student body is under age 24.

Bowling Green Technical College

Bowling Green Technical College offers 19 certificate and degree programs on six campuses in and around the Bowling Green and Glasgow metro areas. Students take classes in fields ranging from culinary arts and machine tool technology to nursing and business studies. Total enrollment for BGTC is slightly less than 5,000 students; 60 percent of the student body is male, and a vast majority--almost 75 percent--attend classes on a part-time basis. Most students at Bowling Green are over age 25. The school awarded nearly six times as many certificates as associate's degrees in 2009.

Hazard Community & Technical College

Hazard Community & Technical College provides 36 programs of study in 12 distinct fields, such as education, health sciences and mining and related technology, on six campuses throughout Hazard and rural southeastern Kentucky. The college awarded approximately 1,100 credentials in 2009, half of which were certificates in technical training. More than 60 percent of students attend HCTC on a part-time basis. The student body is evenly split between students under age 25 and those over 25; slightly more than half the students are male.
