"Virtual Villagers: A New Home" is the first installment in the Virtual Villagers game series, a computer sim game that makes players responsible for their own tribe of castaways. Players must overcome puzzles and survival challenges to keep their villagers fed, their population growing and their tribe happy. Tech points are an important element of the game, used to buy much-needed upgrades that will allow play to progress. Earning tech points is a slow, tedious process, but there are cheats and hints that make it easier for players to get the points they need.

Speed Cheat

By making time move faster inside the game world, you'll accumulate tech points much more quickly. You may cheat the game speed and force the world to move faster by changing the date on your computer clock. Open the game and assign one to three villagers to work at the research table. Close the game, advance the computer's clock forward one hour, and time will move forward in the game. When the game is opened again, you'll have many tech points accumulated. Monitor food supplies closely, and move time forward slowly to avoid accidentally killing sick and starving villagers.

Tech Points Cheat

Use a cheat code to get an unlimited amount of tech points. During gameplay, type out "techpoint" (no quotation marks), and you'll have as many tech points as you need for any project you want. Tech points are spent on the tech screen, which is accessible through the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. The cheat will not need to be-entered until the player starts a new game session.

Upgrade Tip

Spend tech points on upgrades that make points accumulate even faster. Access the tech tree through the "Tech" option on the menu to spend tech points. Advance the science skill to level 3 to gain tech points as fast as possible through normal gameplay. Remember, to collect tech points you must have at least one villager working at the research table.

Research Tip

Don't assign every single villager to work at the research table in order to gather tech points more quickly. Overcrowding the table will only confuse villagers; they will stop working and wander away from the table more frequently. Keep no more than three villagers working at the table at all times to keep overcrowding down to a minimum. With fewer workers, researchers will be more focused and you will gain tech points faster.
