NASCAR has ballooned over the years. According to Time Magazine, NASCAR is the the second-highest rated regular-season viewing sport. In 2005, NASCAR inked an eight-year, $4.5 billion television deal with Fox, ESPN/ABC and TNT. If you and your friends are race fans, why not throw a NASCAR-themed party for the next big race, or for the special racing enthusiast in your life?
Gear up you decorations with black and white checkered tablecloths or NASCAR tablecloths. Place mini racing flags next to the forks and knives. Order some life-size cutouts of NASCAR drivers to adorn the walls and place black and white checkered streamers on the ceiling. For an added touch, hang black and white balloons from the ceiling and use mini race cars as table decorations. For laughs, label the door to the bathroom as the “pit stop” area.
Children will enjoy playing racing-related games during the party. Have a road race with wind-up cars and give prizes such as ribbons or small trophies.
Another game to try is a pit road obstacle race. Have children form teams for a tire race. Have them roll a tire from the starting line to the finish line. The team that finishes the fastest is the winning pit crew.
Organize a pool for the adults to make the big race more exciting. Have guests randomly pick drivers' names who are entered in the race. Whoever draws the winning racer wins a prize. Another game for adults to play is Who Am I? During the game, people draw a card with the name of a famous driver or a racing-related object on it and without looking at the card, have it taped to their back. Have the guests mingle around. Each person will not be able to see what is written on their back, but of course other guests can. Guests address fellow party goers as if they are the racers or objects written on their backs. When everyone figures out who or what is written on their backs, the game ends.
For children and adults alike, have a piñata in the shape of a racing car. Guests will enjoy taking whacks at the piñata and picking up the candy when it breaks open.
Have food with an auto racing theme. Make a cake shaped like a car and serve cupcakes decorated with Oreos to look like wheels. Use a car-shaped cookie cutter to make NASCAR-themed sandwiches.
