Whether overseas or domestic, jobs in travel allow you to enjoy the outdoors and the best accommodations. A career in tourism writing involves reviewing various aspects of travel such as dining, hospitality, and attractions. Travel writers turn their experiences into tips and advice for magazines, catalogs, travel guides and other media outlets. You must be a good writer for this line of work, not just enjoy traveling, says freelance travel writer and food critic Edie Jarolim. Although accommodations and treatment is high end, the pay is on the low end, so writing and traveling to interesting places should be a travel writer's main priority.

Aside from time spent on the road in vehicles, manufacturers also pay test drivers to visit factories in foreign countries to test the vehicles there, according to Ask Men. A BMW test driver says he spends 60 percent of the time driving on highways, while the other 40 are spent on city and suburban streets, according to Salary.com.

Someone with abundant knowledge on destinations, an ability to entertain and who is detailed oriented might be able to handle a job as a tour manager---if he doesn't really care about benefits or getting rich. A tour manager guides tourists through prestigious and historically significant destinations, keeps track of the tour's schedule and accommodations and shares his knowledge of the locations. Compensation includes a flat fee for the tour, payment for each tourist, plus tips, according to a European tour manager in an article for Salary.com. Tour managers also receive payment for their dining receipts and can move frequently, depending on the type of tour.

And I'll add getting a job with a tour operator or with the travel department of an organization. I worked for World Wildlife Fund's Membership Travel program for 5 years as a marketer and got to go on some fab trips twice a year...and get paid for it! After leaving WWF, I began working as a freelance tour manager for different tour operators, who pay me to accompany people on organized tours and make sure things run smoothly. It's a great gig...when the economy isn't in the hole! -

Another option, though not totally free, is arranging a home exchange with someone in a country you want to visit. There are a number of organizations that facilitate these.
