Grants for Subsidizing Music Teachers
An important area of education for music students and teachers alike is the performing arts. Unfortunately, this category of education is often overlooked or not considered a priority by educational facilities when funding is allocated. Music teachers often find themselves having to rely on grant awards to subsidize their curriculum. The good news is that there is ample support available to music teachers in grant awards by many generous and reputable foundations.

Mr. Holland's Opus
-
Children's music programs are a substantial part of early education. Each year, Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation invites music schools and teachers to apply for one of several grant programs that the foundation provides to underserved educational facilities. Teachers and learning facilities serving grades K-12 are eligible to obtain grants and contributions to maintain an adequate quantity of functional musical instruments. This organization does not offer cash awards, but it does provide instrument refurbishing services, as well as new instruments in some cases, to facilities lacking the proper equipment to effectively train music students. As of 2010, average grant awards range from $10,000 to $20,000 in musical equipment.
Fender Music Foundation
-
Fender offers grants to help music educators. The Fender guitar manufacturing company provides significant support to music teachers and students nationwide through its Fender Music Foundation grant program. By offering funding and donating musical instruments to various music schools and community programs, Fender helps teachers fulfill their mission of providing musical education to students. In 2010, grants generally ranged from $500 to $5,000 in cash funding, musical instrument donations or a combination thereof.

Music Teachers National Association

Music teachers may receive funding to enhance their education. The Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) was founded in 1876 to raise awareness of the importance of musical education. This organization's mission is to increase the quality of musical education in the United States by improving the level of professionalism exhibited by music teachers. Still holding true to that mission today, the MTNA supports a foundation fund that includes the Teacher Enrichment Grant Program. Applicants may be awarded grants to fund private study to enhance and improve the quality of their teaching.
Music Educators National Conference--The National Association for Music Education
-
Every student deserves a quality musical education. The Music Educators National Conference, which recently celebrated a centennial, is one of the world's most monumental arts education organizations dedicated to supporting higher levels of music education. Through its Leadership and Learning Grants Program, the Music Educators National Conference distributes cash awards to music teachers, teams of educators, and educational faculties and staff to help them develop new techniques and skills to advance their students' musical education. In 2010, grant awards typically range from $2,000 to $5,000.
