Historical Monuments or Sights in Spain
Spain has a rich history full of religious significance and violent conquests. Spain has been called home by Christians, Muslims and Jews at various times throughout history. Consequently, visitors can find many cathedrals, castles, monasteries and temples scattered across the country. The most famous castle in all of Spain is the Alhambra in Granada and the most unique cathedral is the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. Spain also has a very popular and active monarchy in place which has played a role in global affairs, including the financing of Christopher Columbus's voyage that discovered America. The Royal Palace in Madrid is the largest palace in all of Europe.

The Royal Palace, or El Palacio Real as it is known to the locals, is the largest palace in Europe. Of its 2,000 opulent rooms, 50 can be visited by the public. Construction began in 1738, four years after the Royal Fortress burned down. King Carlos III, son of King Phillip V, moved in 1764 but the palace would not be fully complete until 100 years after construction began. The Royal Palace would be home to Spain's royal monarchs until 1931, when political pressures forced them to take a smaller role in Spain's governance. The palace is still used today for official ceremonies and receptions.

The Alhambra is an amazing castle perched on the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range overlooking the beautiful city of Granada. Built in the fourteenth century by Moorish rulers, the Alhambra is one of the world's most impressive architectural wonders. The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona

The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona is a massive Catholic cathedral designed by local architect Antoni Gaudí. Construction began in 1882 and still continues today. Completion is expected around 2026. The cathedral is designed to have 18 tall spiraling towers each ripe with symbolism, 12 for Jesus's apostles, four for the evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, one for the Virgin Mary and the tallest tower for Jesus himself. Every facade of the Sagrada Familia has unique character and Gaudí flair.
