Thinking about invitations to your Goth party? Think no more.

Goths enjoy many things that fall under the motifs of dark, romantic and grisly. After you've decided on a Gothic party theme, the next step is to invite your friends with fun and intriguing cards that use bits of Goth culture. Don't forget to paint everything black before you send the cards out to your friends. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Edgar Allan Poe

    • Nineteenth century American author Edgar Allan Poe has many adoring fans who enjoy his dark and sometimes grim prose and poetry. Romantic Goths who base their looks and philosophy on the dark romanticism of Poe's time would do well in taking a page from Poe's book. Pull a famous quote from one of Poe's most famous works, "The Raven"---"Quoth the raven, 'Nevermore'"---and rephrase it into an inviting expression, such as: "Quoth the raven, Nevermore will you refuse to come to my party. You're invited." You can write or type that onto the front of the invitation, and then on the inside have all of the necessary information including the date of the party, the time and the place. You can decorate the card further by adding pictures of ravens, Edgar Allan Poe and candles.

    Vampires

    • If you consider yourself a Goth whose main influence is Anne Rice's "Vampire Chronicles" or the more recent "True Blood" television show, coming up with a party invitation should be a piece of cake. Find pictures of your favorite vampires online and paste them into a party invitation. Add a clever phrase on the front of your card to entice your fellow vampire devotees. You can pull from your sources of inspiration or come up with a funny phrase yourself. One such phrase you can use is: "Why don't you stop on by? I'll be sure to invite you in," which plays on the idea that vampires cannot enter a home without an invitation by the host. You can even send with your invitation a pair of false vampire teeth, which will ready your guests for the party.

    The Cure

    • A lot of Goths agree The Cure is the one of the best bands ever. With their outrageous Goth outfits and moody songs, the New Wave band from the 1980s made many a preppy change their tune and start wearing black. For a Goth party invitation, you can invite your fellow Cure groupies with a pun on the front of your invitation card, such as "I've got the Cure for you---Come to my party." Or, you can use a lyric by the band to entice your friends over---"And let's hit opening time down on Fascination Street ... or my house." Your friends, if they're Cure fans, will understand. You can then add to the invitation some pictures of the band, and even ask your friends to all come dressed like Robert Smith, the lead singer of The Cure.
