Austin, Texas, is in the central part of the state and serves as the capital. The Mansion at Judges' Hill originally opened in 1900 is now a luxury boutique hotel in the downtown district of Austin. The hotel, once the private residence of Goodall Wooten, a local doctor who lived in the house for 44 years with his family. In 1944, the property was sold and converted into a student housing property and later became a drug and alcohol treatment center. In 2001, the property sold once again and the home was renovated and transformed into a luxurious boutique hotel. The Driskill Hotel in the downtown district of the city prides itself on its membership in the Historic Hotels of America. The hotel, built in 1886 as a showplace for Jesse Driskill, was one of the tallest buildings the city had seen at the time. In 1895, the property was converted to a hotel that featured all the modern amenities of that era. Over the years, the property changed ownership several times, but in 2008, it underwent extensive remodeling and renovations, creating a hotel like no other in the area.
