The Eastern School of Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine in Montclair, New Jersey, offers students a 2,202-hour acupuncture program that leads to a master's degree. Designed with flexibility for working adults, classes meet in the afternoon, evenings and on weekends for an average of three full weekends a month. Twelve-month internships at the clinical level take place in the summer prior to the third year. Curriculum includes training in traditional Chinese medicine as well as the five elements and Japanese, or Kiiko style, of medicine and acupuncture. Students finish the program with mastery of herbal nomenclature, methodologies, and "all pharmacological benefits to patients." Tuition for two years is $11,500 plus the cost of books and fees.

Founded in 1988, the Academy for Five Element Acupuncture in Gainesville, Florida, trains students in the five-element acupuncture approach to practice the classical five-element standards. The school aspires to teach master's degree students theory, philosophy and the practice of acupuncture with safety and responsibility. Programs include a 27-month master's degree in acupuncture, a 27-month Chinese herbal studies certificate, a 36-month combination of both, or a 36-month combination with the state of Florida electives for students seeking Florida licensure.
