Home Security System
-
You can install your own home security system. Installing a home security system is one of those home electronics projects that you can expand on until you have exactly what you want. You can purchase a home security kit that comes with a control pad and electronic contacts for your windows and doors. Prior to purchasing the kit, count how many windows and doors you would like to protect so that you purchase enough materials. Home security systems can be wireless or they can be plugged into the wall. The manufacturer instructions can help you to install the metal contacts properly. You can also add wireless surveillance cameras to your security system. You would need an active Internet modem, a wireless router and a computer to put the project together. Once you are done you will be able to monitor your property from any Internet-enabled computer in the world.
Dimmer Switches
-
Replace your old light switch with a new dimmer switch. Installing dimmer switches can help to give your home a more modern look, and they can also help you save energy. By putting your lighting on a dimmer switch instead of a standard on/off switch, you can control how much energy you are burning with your lights. You can combine a dimmer switch with energy-efficient florescent lights to save more money on your energy bills. Be certain to purchase florescent lights that are compatible with dimmer switches.

Ceiling Fans
-
A ceiling fan can cool a room. A ceiling fan can help keep a room cool, it costs less to operate than an air conditioner and it can also be a decorative piece in any room. If you intend to install your ceiling fan on a high ceiling be sure to have a helper secure your ladder for you while you work. You will need a ceiling fan kit and a wire snake to help you run wire from your fan to the wall switch. If you have an old ceiling fan that has not worked in years then consider replacing it with a new and functioning fan. All of the wiring has already been done for you, so the job should be easier.
