Amtrak’s New York City station sits at 8th Avenue and 31st Street and is otherwise known as Penn Station. According to the new Penn Station website, “…roughly 25 percent of the nation's Amtrak passengers pass through Penn Station at some point on their journey… .” A number of hotels surrounding the Penn Station area serve travelers passing through the station. Some offer basic hotel amenities and lower rates while others offer boutique-style appointments and price points.

Affinia Manhattan

The Affinia Manhattan hotel sits across from Manhattan’s Penn Station. The hotel originally opened in 1929 as the Governor Clinton Hotel. The Affinia offers 526 suites and a number of Terrace suites. Rooms come in four floor plans—the standard guest room, studio room, one-bedroom suite, and two-bedroom suite. All rooms include choice of Dream Pillows, high-speed Internet access (for a fee), and cable television with web browser. The standard guest room offers 175 square feet of living space. Affinia offers guests one on-site restaurant called Niles New York City Restaurant and Bar. Niles serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and after-hours drinks until 2:00 am. Additional amenities and services include grocery shopping, secretarial services, a fitness center, and Metro concierge services.

The New Yorker Hotel

The New Yorker Hotel has 912 guest rooms and suites. Hotel amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access, on demand movies, daily laundry service, fitness center, and business center. Located on Seventh Avenue and 33rd Street, Hotel Pennsylvania sits directly across the street from Penn Station. The hotel offers 1,700 rooms including family-friendly rooms like the Superior room with three twin beds and the Penn 5000 Club rooms designed for the seasoned traveler. Guest rooms include standard hotel features and amenities such as iron and ironing board, hairdryer, and clock radios. The hotel does not offer high-speed Internet access in the guest rooms, but for a fee guests can access the Internet in the lobby and common areas. Hotel Pennsylvania does offer free parking and use of its fitness center. The hotel features Lindy’s Restaurant right off the main lobby and a 24-hour coffee shop and newsstand.
