Halloween Hangman

It's easy to convert any word game into a Halloween game.

Transform a traditional game of hangman into a haunted Halloween version. Start by drawing a simple hangman pole or noose on a large piece of chart paper, chalk board or even loose copy paper. Have one team think of a Halloween-themed word such as Frankenstein, haunted house, skeleton or Dracula. Then have that team draw short blank spaces to represent each of the letters in the chosen word underneath the hangman pole. For example, if the team chose the word monster, it would place seven hatch lines underneath the hangman pole to represent the seven letters in the word monster.
Next, have each player on the opposite team take turns guessing a letter. If a player guesses a letter that is in the chosen word, the team that selected the word writes that letter in the correct hatch line. If a player guesses a letter that is not in the word, have the word team draw a body part (like an arm, leg, head, foot) from the pole or noose. To make the game less gruesome (especially for younger children), replace the hangman with a dancing, smiling skeleton, a friendly witch or a goofy goblin.
As players call out letters and form the Halloween hangman, they can also shout out word guesses at any time. The first player to correctly guess the word before the Halloween hangman is completely drawn is the winner.

Hide a bunch of well-known Halloween words within a square filled with other random letters in vertical and horizontal lines on a piece of copy paper. Examples of popular Halloween words include witch, ghost, haunted house, Frankenstein, Dracula, werewolf, monster, jack-o-lantern, spooky and goblin. Have words go up, down, sideways and diagonally within the letter-filled square. Make enough copies of your word search for all players, then have them circle as many of your Halloween words as they can find. The player who circles the most correct words wins the Witchy Word Search.

Haunt a standard crossword puzzle by selecting words and clues that are all related to Halloween. Create a blank crossword grid by making an equal number of vertical and horizontal lines inside a square, resulting in a bunch of equally sized empty boxes. Make one copy of this blank grid. Next, on your master copy, enter criss-crossed words into as many squares as possible and fill in the remaining boxes with black marker. On your blank copy, number all of the boxes where words begin and create the "across" and "down" clues for them. For example, if "1 Across" is "Trick or Treat," the clue would be "What do you say to get candy on Halloween night?" Make copies of your creepy crossword puzzle for all of your guests. The player who correctly fills in the puzzle first wins.
