Jekyll Island is located on the Atlantic Ocean coast of Georgia. For Georgia-lovers who have never had the pleasure of visiting Jekyll Island, it is located between Savannah and Jacksonville, Florida. It is such a beautiful resort destination with miles of beach. But it's made only that much better when you can stay at a pet friendly hotel and your dog can run along the beach to enjoy the island just as much as you. Adhere to the strict policies however as each hotel pet policy and rate varies.

Quality Inn & Suites Jekyll Island

The Quality Inn & Suites is located in the heart of Jekyll Island, near Jekyll Harbor Marina and not far from the beach. The hotel does indeed accept pets and you get the comfort of a well known brand in Quality Inn. There are no weight restrictions but they do impose a limit of two pets per room. As far as hotel amenities, guests will have access to bike rentals, shuffleboard and an outdoor pool as well as four golf courses on the island. The pet fee is $10 per night. As of 2010. the rates start at $89 per room but that varies by season so double-check when making the reservation.

Villas by the Sea Resort, Jekyll Island

At the Villas by the Sea Resort you will have a choice between renting one-, two- and three-bedroom villas. The property is set on seventeen acres, surrounded by the island with gorgeous views. You can walk to Driftwood Beach or bike on the bike paths. They also have a solar heated pool.

This is indeed a pet-friendly property. They require a non-refundable pet fee of $75 for a Mini Villa or a 1 Bedroom Villa, $100 for a 2-Bedroom and $150 for a 3-Bedroom. There is a limit of 2 pets. If you wish to bring your pet, you must call the reservation department toll free number at 1-866-920-1263, as availability is very limited.

A Tip: this rate may be negotiable as the rate listed on the website is slightly higher than when you call and speak to the hotel staff directly. They quote $50 or $100 depending on the villa---slightly more reasonable. The best available room rate starts at $117 per night for a one bedroom villa but rates vary by season.

Jekyll Oceanfront, A Clarion Resort

The Jekyll Oceanfront is near the convention center, the Harbor Marina and the Summer Waves Water Park. They do indeed accept pets with a few restrictions. The pet should be 25 pounds or less and there is a fee of $25 per day.

Jekyll Oceanfront Resort is the area's largest oceanfront resort hotel. There are 260 guest rooms and villas set on fifteen acres which also includes, in addition to the pool, a children's playground, a full-service restaurant and lounge, barbeque pits and volleyball courts. The rooms are also equipped with WiFi and cable.

Other amenities include free coffee, coffeemaker and a daily newspaper. Besides the standard rooms they also offer the villa accommodations. You may choose from 1 and 2 bedroom villas. These villas are bi-level townhouses with a courtyard or ocean view and include all the amenities plus a kitchen, dining area, living room, and private patio--plenty of room for your dog or cat to roam. The rates start at $99 per night but that varies by season.
