The city of Monroe is located in northern Louisiana, off Highway 20 between Shreveport, Louisiana and Jackson, Mississippi. Monroe is a town that is rich in Southern and ancient history. Area attractions include Poverty Point, the oldest site of human habitation in North America; Layton Castle; aviation, art, natural history and children's museums; Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge and the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo. Numerous college and technical schools are near Monroe, including Louisiana Technical College, Career Technical College and Delta Community College.

  1. Delta Community College

    • Monroe's Delta Community College is located across the river from the University of Louisiana at Monroe campus and near the Monroe Regional Airport and Interstate 20. Delta is an open-admissions institution and will accept transfer students and non-degree seeking students. Programs offered at Monroe include Associate of Arts Degrees in Liberal Arts and General Studies; Associate of Science in General Science, Nursing and Teaching and Associate of Applied Science in Business and Technology and Care and Development. Prior to attending classes, students must show documentation of immunizations and take an academic placement examination.

    Career Technical College

    • Career Technical College (CTC) is conveniently located on Louisville Avenue near the Twin City Shopping Center. The Monroe campus is one of two in the state; the other, which has slightly different offerings, is in nearby Shreveport. CTC-Monroe is nationally accredited by the Council on Occupational Education and offers three types of programs: degree, diploma and testing. Degree programs include Criminal Justice, Information Processing, Legal Office Technology, Management, Massage Therapy, Medical Assisting, Medical Office Technology, Radiography Technology, Respiratory Therapy and Surgical Technology. The two diploma programs are Massage Therapy and Medical Office Assistant. CTC is certified to administer Microsoft Office User Specialist certification testing by appointment.

    • The Louisiana Technical College (LTC) Monroe campus is located directly off Interstate 20, which is convenient for both in- and out-of-town students. LTC prepares students for careers in a wide range of technical fields by emphasizing a hands-on approach to learning. Students can earn an Associate of Applied Science degree, Technical Diploma, Certificate of Technical Studies and a Technical Competency Area in such dynamic and varied programs as Accounting Technology, Avaiation Maintenance Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Commercial and Custom Sewing, Carpentry, Commercial Diving, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts and Occupations, Electrician and Forest Technology. LTC offers a General Education Program that is transferable to larger colleges or universities.
