Scholarships for Licensed Practical Nursing

Scholarships for Licensed Practical Nursing thumbnail
The field for LPNs is projected to grow faster than average.

Most licensed practical nurse programs last only 1 year and can be taken at a community college or vocational school. Due to this, most scholarship and grant funding is directed toward long-term nursing degrees, but this does not mean that there are no options.

  1. The Foundation of the National Student Nurses' Association, Inc.

    • U.S. citizens and foreign students with an alien registration number enrolled in any nursing or prenursing program are eligible to apply (A.S., B.A., diploma, master's and doctorate degrees). Those in graduate school are only eligible if they do not hold an undergraduate degree or diploma in nursing. Graduating seniors are not eligible. The National Student Nurse Association awards over $125,000 per year in scholarships, with individual scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $2,500. Scholarships are awarded based on criteria such as academic achievement, financial need, extracurricular activities and volunteer work in nursing and healthcare. To apply you must complete an application, submit a $10 processing fee, transcripts or a grade report and proof of NSNA membership if applicable.

    National Black Nurses Association

    • Scholarships awarded from this association range from $500 to $2,000. In order to qualify, students must already be enrolled in a nursing program (including those in LPN programs), must be a member of the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) and a member of the local chapter, if applicable. The application process consists of submitting official transcripts, a two-page essay and two letters of recommendation. Documentation showing involvement in student nurse activities and the African American community are encouraged, but not required.

Alabama Nursing Home Association Education Foundation

    • This scholarship is specifically for current LPN students in Alabama and is worth $1,000 (or $500 per semester). Students must be enrolled in one of the 22 LPN programs in the state of Alabama. To be eligible students must be Alabama residents in a public 2-year college, have completed one semester with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and commit to performing their clinical work at a long-term care facility.
