New Hampshire colleges and universities are seeing a value in offering web design as either a major or a certificate program. Whether a student is interested in a four year degree or perhaps learning a new skill that can be taught in one semester all are available throughout the Granite State.

  1. Nashua Community College

    • Located just over the border from Massachusetts, Nashua Community College got its start in 1970 with some 97 students, according to nashuacc.edu. Now four decades later, the college is part of New Hampshire's statewide system of colleges that offer students the ability to earn an Associates degrees, or professionals who want to further skill set through certificate programs. At NCC students can enroll in the Associates degree of web design, which requires students to complete 67 credits of study. The Associates program, "combines numerous facets of traditional software engineering skills with a graphical user interface design, and client server architecture," notes nashuacc.edu. The college also offers a four-course certificate program in web design that teaches students how to design and maintain a website.

    University of New Hampshire`

    • The college town of Durham sits is nestled just a few short miles from the Atlantic Ocean and is home to University of New Hampshire. As part of its professional development and training program UNH offers a Website Design and Development Certificate Program. Classes are only available "live" not on-line at the school's Durham location. The program is made up of seven required workshops that are usually completed within two years but can be done sooner depending on a person's time frame. In Spring 2010 the total cost for the program was $1,435, which includes lab fees, according to learn.unh.edu (see Resources). The average class size for this program is 10.

    Keene State College

    • Fifteen miles from the Vermont border is home to Keene State College. This local school offers a web design certificate to people who may be looking to change careers or those who want to learn how to design their own web page. This non-credited certificate program is offered through the college's Office of Continuing Education. The program was established more than five years ago and participants are required to take three core classes as well as three electives. Students can complete the entire program on-line but for those who enjoy "face to face learning the core courses in writing and graphics are also offered at the Keene State campus," according to keene.edu.
