Summer Crafts for Seniors
People of all ages can benefit from making crafts. Crafts stimulate creativity, work out fine motor skills, and beautify a living space. If you know a senior citizen, help him or her make summer crafts to brighten the home or sell at a craft fair. The senior will enjoy the project, and can even use the crafty creations as gifts for the holiday season to come.

Seashell Art
-
Seashells can adorn a variety of craft projects for a summer feel. Seniors can paint a wooden photo frame, a tin can, or a wooden wall plaque in blue, ocean-like shades. Then they can glue seashells around the edges of their projects to add a seaside feel. The picture frame or wall plaque can adorn the walls of a bedroom, while the tin can becomes storage for pens, paper clips, or craft supplies.
Ink and Stamps
-
Seniors can use stamps to decorate greeting cards, gift bags, or other paper products. These homemade items can be adorned with stickers or ribbons to add more color to the project, and seniors can keep them on hand the next time they need a gift for a special occasion.

Flower Pot Decor
-
Seniors can decorate a plain flower pot and make it a work of art. They can paint it with sponges, glue lacy paper doilies onto the outside, or use stickers to adorn the edges. Then they can use the flower pot for its original purpose or find a new one, such as holding handkerchiefs or prescription bottles.
Modeling Clay
-
Seniors can take small sections of colorful modeling clay and roll it into basic bead shapes. Then they can use a wooden skewer to poke a hole through the beads, and leave them to dry overnight. After the clay is dry they can string the beads onto yarn or ribbon to make bracelets and necklaces for themselves or to give as gifts to friends and family members.
Feed the Birds
-
Seniors can attract bird visitors to their windows by making a simple bird feeder to hang outside. They can roll a pine cone in peanut butter and cover it with bird seed, then tie a length of yarn to the top and hang it from a tree. Or they can cut the bottom portion of a paper milk carton and decorate the outside, then fill it with birdseed and hang it from a tree by attaching yarn to either side.
