Snowflakes are one example of a paper craft for kids.

Paper ornament crafts for kids are a creative and amusing way for children to learn basic skills, such as cutting and folding. The low-cost and versatile nature of paper ornament crafts makes the activities suitable for use in a home, school or community group. For the best results, always keep craft projects age-appropriate.

  1. Decoupage Lid

    • A decoupage lid craft lets kids of any age create a holiday ornament. The plastic lid has a small hole punched into the top with a tied loop of string for hanging. Kids cover the lid with small pieces of paper in assorted colors and patterns using a mixture of white glue and water to attach and glaze the paper to the lid. Kids can use holiday wrapping paper to create Christmas ornaments, heart-patterned stationary for Valentine's Day ornaments or oval pieces of pastel tissue paper for Easter ornaments.

    Easy Chain

    • Long, colorful, precut, rectangular pieces of construction paper and a bottle of glue are the only things young kids need to make a paper-chain ornament. The chain starts with one narrow piece of paper curled into a loop with the ends glued together. Each piece of paper loops around the previous piece, creating a decorative garland that can be as long as kids like.

    Flower Ball

    • Though a flower craft may have a certain feminine flair, it also produces beautiful results. The base of the ornament consists of 2-inch craft foam ball glued to a loop of ribbon. Kids use the end of a pencil or chopstick to push small squares of colorful tissue paper into the ball. They should add paper until the entire ball looks like it's covered with flowers.

    Paper Snowflake Craft

    • A snowflake is a classic paper ornament craft for kids. The craft requires folding a single piece of white paper several times and cutting small holes around the resulting shape. When the paper in unfolded, it reveals a lacelike pattern. Folding the paper into a square or rectangle will result in a fancy placemat appearance. For a snowflake shape, kids should fold the paper on the diagonal to create a triangle. Snowflakes, or lace-cut pieces of paper, can be used for more than just a simple ornament on a Christmas tree or holiday window. Use snowflakes to decorate the front of a plain card or cover it in glitter to use as a window sun catcher. Place a lace-cut piece of black paper over a solid piece of black paper covered with colorful crayon marks to create a stained glass wall hanging.

    Paper Snowman Craft

    • Entertain kids cooped up in the cold weather with a simple snowman craft. The small snowman is made from three pairs of white paper circles stuffed with cotton balls and glued into a snowman shape. Markers, crayons, beads, paper and/or chenille stems create the snowman's eyes, nose, mouth, buttons and arms. A thin strip of paper folds around the snowman's neck as a scarf, and its head is secured to a paper loop for hanging.
