SBA Grants for Minorities
The Small Business Administration (SBA) provides many grants for minority business owners. Some of the grants are for members of a particular minority group (such as black, Latino, or Asian). The primary source for finding these grants is through the official Grants.gov website. The process for applying for the grants can be challenging, and even once you gain approval, the government requires you to fulfill all the requirements exactly.

Finding the Listings
-
The Grants.gov website is the best resource for finding minority grants from the SBA. Other websites might purport to be an authentic source for grants, but those typically re-list grants available from the official source. Using the search tool provided, look for grants offered specifically to minority business owners. Many of the grants are for specific types of businesses or those in particular locations, such as restaurants in urban areas. If you already have a business in operation, it will greatly enhance your chances of winning approval.
Applying for the Grants
-
The grant application process is competitive. If you lack writing skills, it might be wise to contract the job out to an experienced grant writer. While some may advise applying for many different types of grants, the best way to win approval is to focus your resources on the grants most relevant to your business. Your grant proposal will need to be highly detailed to be considered by the SBA on a serious level.

Creating the Grant Proposal and Fulfilling the Grant
-
The grant proposal will need to include a description of your business, how you intend to fulfill the terms of the grant, and what social purpose the grant will fulfill. In the case of a minority-run business, you'll be expected to include detailed information about how the business will serve a minority population, and enhance the prosperity of the local community. Once you win approval for the grant, the terms will require you to update the SBA on your progress in fulfilling it on a regular basis. The grant money will typically be provided in stages contingent on your ability to perform.
