Saint Louis is home to many excellent pizzerias.

An April 2009 article at MSNBC.com reports that President Obama, a Chicago native, has touted Saint Louis pizza as the best he has ever eaten. The two cities are now not only baseball rivals, but also pizzeria competitors. Unfortunately, although the President's pizza was made in St. Louis, it was still modeled after Chicago style pizza. Nevertheless, St. Louis style pizza, which features a thin crust and loads of toppings, is a delicious must-have treat for tourists and locals alike. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Pi Pizzeria

    • Pi Pizzeria has locations in Saint Louis' Central West End, the Loop and Kirkwood. This was the pizzeria that stole President Obama's heart and palate in the spring of 2009. The restaurant specializes in Chicago-style pizza, but also has several varieties of thin crust, Saint Louis style pizza to offer. Pi serves gluten-free and vegan dishes, and considers itself a "green" restaurant.The pizzeria does not accept reservations, so get there early, since it is a popular place. Pi Pizzeria is dine-in only.

    Imo's Pizza

    • Imo's Pizza, known as "the square beyond compare," has been in operation since 1964. It's not hard to find an Imo's in Saint Louis, or Missouri for that matter. The thin crust pizza, with a tangy sauce and provel cheese, is a Saint Louis favorite. Most restaurants have lunch specials, as well as beer, soda, sandwiches, and salads. The house dressing is also quite popular. Imo's has dine, carry out and delivery options.

    Fortel's Pizza Den

    • The first Fortel's was opened by Bob Fortel in 1981. Since then, 7 more locations have been opened throughout the St. Louis metro area, and Fortel's has become a well-known St. Louis establishment. The pizza also features a thin crust, but uses fresh mozzarella cheese and generous, fresh toppings. The sausage is especially delicious. Fortel's has dine-in, carry out and delivery options.
