Cool Gift Ideas for a New Home
A new home marks the beginning of a new era for many people. Homes gradually become of sentimental value to most owners---and the first memories are often times the most memorable. Gift buying does not have to be difficult and with a few basic ideas, it can be easy to provide a gift that homeowners will treasure for years to come.

DVD's
-
A DVD is a "cool" gift that is also cheaper than your average welcoming gift. Not only are DVD's appreciated, but they are useful. The only tricky part is choosing the type of movie or genre. It helps to know the recipients' tastes in movies, but if you don't, avoid R-rated movies that might contain material offensive to the home-owners. Stick with PG-13 ratings if it's a couple; if they have kids, consider sticking with PG- or G-rated movies. Comedies are always safer bets than dramas or thrillers since most people like comedies.
Movie Tickets
-
Movie tickets can make a great gift since they are rarely associated with housewarming gifts. Most people love movies and movie tickets can be purchased in advance---try going to your local theatre and getting tickets for one of their new shows. If you want to spice up this gift, put it in a gift basket---this will make it much more presentable, while costing very little.

Sports Tickets
-
Although a bit more expensive, it's difficult to give a cooler gift than tickets to a sports game. Many people that aren't even sports fans will enjoy a night out to a sports game; of course, it does help if you know that the new neighbors are fans prior to purchasing, but they will appreciate the gesture just the same.
Obviously this gift has its limitations. If you don't live near a major town, then a professional sports venue is out of the question. Ensure that the recipients live no more than an hour's drive of a sports stadium if you are going to purchase tickets. Other options include sports leagues that aren't professional, such as arena football or minor league baseball.
Art
-
Giving a print in a frame is a very sophisticated, as well as a cool gift. Most people have room for an extra picture to hang, so it's also not something that is going to take up space. The difficulty lies in choosing a picture. Normally, more generic art will fit within most homes. Rustic or "country style" art is often a popular item in homes. Avoid art that has bright colors, which might contrast unfavorably with your new neighbor's decor. Also beware of modern art since people's taste in modern art is very variable. Sticking with a small print in a generic black or brown frame is the safest option.
