Wrapping paper-covered Easter egg

Mod Podge is a decoupage glue that works to attach paper, photos, or pressed flowers to glass, plastic, wood, or Styrofoam. Mod Podge glues and protects the paper materials with a glossy or semi-glossy sheen. One such craft project involves covering Styrofoam egg shapes with a variety of materials using Mod Podge. You can make these decorative Easter eggs as gifts or to complement your holiday style.

  1. Mosaic Easter Eggs

    • Cut or tear a variety of different colored tissue paper into small bits to create a mosaic Easter egg using Mod Podge. Coat the Styrofoam eggs with a layer of decoupage medium, then press the paper into the wet glue. Paint sponges work well with Mod Podge. Overlap the edges until the egg is completely covered. Spread more decoupage glue on top of the colorful tissue paper and let it dry completely. Add another coat of Mod Podge as added protection.

    Wrapping Paper Easter Eggs

    • Decorative wrapping paper is a good candidate for covering Styrofoam Easter eggs using Mod Podge. Select thick paper with a springtime theme and cut out a section to fit the entire Styrofoam egg. Apply the Mod Podge to the egg first, then press the paper into the glue. Add another coat or two of decoupage medium on top of the paper. Be sure to let the first coat dry completely before adding another.

    Photo Easter Eggs

    • Create Easter eggs filled with precious memories by covering Styrofoam eggs with photos. Cut the photos to outline faces or people, then make a collage on the eggs. Apply the photos to the eggs using Mod Podge and the same process described for the mosaic and wrapping paper eggs. You can also outline the images with a permanent marker or a paint pen before adding the second layer of Mod Podge.

    Pressed Pansy Easter Eggs

    • Cover a Styrofoam egg with pressed pansies to create a decorative botanical Easter egg. Paint the egg in a soft lavender, yellow, blue, or green, and let it dry before you apply the first layer of Mod Podge. Place the pansies one by one around the center, at the top and at the bottom of the egg. Finish with another coat or two of Mod Podge.

    Easter Eggs with a Message

    • Cut words out of magazines to make Easter eggs with a message. Paint the eggs a corresponding background color, then attach the paper words to the eggs with Mod Podge. Protect the message with at least one more coat of Mod Podge.
