Religious Crafts for Kids About Prayer
Prayer is an important tenet of faith. Children can learn about how and why to pray, and these lessons can be reinforced by creating related crafts. From containers to hold prayer requests, to special places to pray, to decorated prayer reminders, crafts for kids about prayer serve a useful purpose.

Prayer Reminder Pouch
-
One important aspect of prayer is remembering to pray for others. Children can create a prayer reminder pouch to store prayer requests.
You will need two paper plates. Cut one paper plate in half, and lay it over the other plate so that a pouch is created in the space between the two. Children can staple the plates together around the edges. Encourage children to decorate the pouch as they desire. They can write "I will pray" on the pouch with a permanent marker.
Punch a hole at the top and add a yarn loop so children can hang the pouch in a spot they will see it often. Provide index cards for children so they can write their prayer requests, and then store them in the prayer pouch.
An alternative to this is to use a shoebox to make a "prayer box." Wrap the lid and bottom of the box with wrapping paper and allow children to decorate the box. Help them cut a slit into the lid and encourage them to write prayer requests onto pieces of paper and put them into the box.
Prayer Mat
-
This craft helps kids create a special spot in which to pray. Provide a carpet sample square for each child (no shag carpets; flat types work best). Children can use permanent markers or acrylic paints to decorate their square. Ideas include writing "my prayer mat" or embellishing with favorite things around the edges. Encourage the children to use the mats whenever they pray.

Prayer Rocks
-
Something as simple as a rock can help remind children to pray. Go on a walk outside and let each child find a rock to collect. Wash the rocks, and then use acrylic paint to decorate them.
As the rocks dry, discuss prayer and why it is important. Encourage the children to put their rocks in their bedroom windows. Each time they see the rocks, they can remember the importance of prayer, and they can say a prayer for themselves or for someone else.
