    1. Whaley Mansion

      • The Whaley Mansion, a 20-room 1850s house located on Kearsley Street in Flint, Michigan, is directly across the street from the University of Michigan-Flint campus. The home is renovated now and is part of a Victorian-style neighborhood that serves as a museum.

The Whaley Mansion was first rumored to be haunted when it was being renovated. Contractors claimed that someone pitched a tarp over the banister on the second floor, and the tarp levitated for a time before settling on the banister. There have also been numerous accounts of an odd female presence in the home whenever people enter. Believers say the presence in the house is Mrs. Whaley, a prominent resident until the early 1900s.

      Phillips Mansion

      • On a hill in the Heritage Hill section of Grand Rapids, Michigan, sits a Georgian Revival-style mansion known locally as the Phillips Mansion. The two-story antebellum home was built in 1864, but the first odd occurrence didn't happen until much later. In 1934 a mysterious fire drove out the 20-year residents, one of which was a spiritualist who claimed to contact the dead through séances in the home. In the 1950s, after the house was sold and converted into apartments, it was restored to its original condition on the exterior. In 1972, two women were sharing an apartment on the second floor. One of the ladies was awakened by the appearance of a blond man floating near the ceiling above her bed. The same woman woke up one morning to find a thin, wrinkled lady in the bed with her who appeared to be in pain. She ran to get her roommate, but all that was left upon their return was an indentation on the pillow where the lady had been lying. The two moved out soon afterward.

The haunting encouraged another sale of the house to two men who weren't concerned with ghosts. Shortly after the men moved into the mansion, disturbances continued that included unexplained footstep noises, banging, thumping, vibrations and even appearances of an apparition of an old man dressed in a brown tweed suit; the spirit is rumored to be that of James T. Phillips, who died in the mansion in 1912.

      Cole Adams House

      • The Cole Adams House is located on Market Street in Detroit, Michigan, and is a private residence today. The current owners do not comment on whether any paranormal activity continues in the home. In the early 1960s the Cole Adams family purchased the house, partially because of a bedroom located off the kitchen. Bill, the father, worked midnights and could sleep in the room undisturbed during the day.

The disturbances began when Bill had a vivid dream of a bloody, mutilated female corpse hanging in the bedroom closet. The dream woke Bill up on his first night in the room, where he sat shaken and sweaty. A family friend had multiple experiences in the room during a visit and saw what was apparently the same woman, always wearing a blue dress and fur jacket with a corpse's face; this was similar to the description Bill had given on the first night in the room. When Bill's mother came to visit and slept in the room in 1962, she experienced the sound of someone banging on the closet door from the inside.
