"Yes We Can" was perhaps the most popular quote from President Obama's 2008 presidential campaign. Honor Obama with a "Yes We Can" pencil holder made from of an old can. The cans should be opened and emptied and, if possible, sanded down on the inside to remove any jagged edges. Very young children may need adult assistance when lining the outside of the can with construction paper or fabric. The cans can be wrapped with decorative ribbon, pictures of Obama or patriotic drawings. Somewhere on the pencil holder, children can write, "Yes We Can."

To teach children while allowing them to express their creativity, turn a lesson into a craft. Before beginning this project, ask the children what President Obama means to them, who he is and what he stands for. Then ask them to make a collage based on their perspective of President Obama. The collage can be made of construction paper, clippings from magazines, newspapers or printed from the Internet. They can be glued to a large sheet of poster board or cardstock.
