Bricklayer & Masonry Instruction Schools

According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, those interested in becoming bricklayers or masons typically learn their skills on the job. Many choose to complete an apprenticeship program that lasts between 3 and 4 years and requires 144 hours of classroom education. While 144 hours of classroom study is standard, many programs require apprentices to complete more hours. SUNY offers students a program leading to an Associates of Occupational Studies degree in masonry. Student who take classes at the Alfred, New York, campus learn beginning to advanced masonry techniques. They graduate with the skills necessary to perform a variety of jobs including bricklaying, fireplace masonry and construction supervision. They are also taught the skills to excel at blueprint reading, brick sales and kiln masonry.

Dakota County Technical College

Students enrolled at this Rosemont, Minnesota, school earn an Associates of Applied Science degree in concrete and masonry. High school students may take a diploma program in concrete and masonry. Students work as an apprentice alongside bricklayers and masons, while completing 400 hours of classroom instruction. As they progress throughout the program, they are given the opportunity to earn more money. Upon completion of the apprenticeship, students are expected to be able to take command of construction sites.
