Custom Truck Ideas

Customizing your truck can be a great way to take your automotive experience to the next level. Not only can you show your unique ideas to the rest of the world, customization can give your truck a serious performance boost. Popular customization ideas include those for the truck's paint, its engine, and suspension. While a full customization job may require a significant amount of money, the end result is almost always worth the cost.

  1. Custom Paint

    • Because a custom paint job is the most conspicuous and overt part of any customization project, any new paint job must be chosen wisely. Sport Truck Magazine recommends a number of different paint jobs to make your truck stand out, but none are as good as two-tone flame paint. For a more original look, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) paint jobs are quickly becoming popular again. A great way to determine how a particular OEM paint job will appear on your truck is to go visit the dealership; according to Sport Truck Magazine, this may help you envision how that particular paint job looks on metal.

Don't stop there; hundreds of potential custom paint jobs exist to give your truck a truly unique look. These designs are limited only by your imagination. Take your ideas to a design shop for a professional opinion.

    Custom Engine

    • If you really want to make your truck howl on the road, consider engine customization options. A number of companies will take your stock truck engine and turn it into a force to be reckoned with. A Chevy small block 350, for example, can be highly customized with the installation of aftermarket parts. Pro-Formance Unlimited, an engine customization shop based in New Jersey, can bring a stock small block 350 up to 475 horsepower with the addition of aluminum heads and a Dual Quad Edelbrock carburetor.

If you are looking for even more power out of your truck, the original engine can simply be replaced with a larger, more powerful one. Pro-Formance Unlimited builds a 540 cubic inch V-8 with a startling 630 horsepower. While this isn't a common engine in street vehicles, this is just another engine customization idea that you may consider for your truck.

    Custom Suspension

    • If you want to take your truck off-road, there is an excellent chance that the truck was not properly optimized for off-road use straight from the factory. A customized suspension is an excellent way to give you the best possible performance when taking your truck into rugged terrain. For those on a budget, a simple 2-inch lift and coil set can breathe new life into a truck's off-road capabilities. If you have a little bit more to spend and are serious about going off-road, 4Wheel & Off-Road Magazine suggests installing a full-link suspension. Link suspensions, as opposed to coil-type suspensions, will keep the entire axle from moving side to side under load. This will ensure that you get the best possible off-road experience and performance without sacrificing the suspension's ability to move up and down.
