Unusual 60th Birthday Gifts
While 50th birthdays mark going “over the hill,” 60th birthdays usually signify impending (or recent) retirement and the start of being a senior citizen. Some people find their 60th birthday to be depressing, but you can put a smile back on their face and really surprise them with an unusual present instead of a more traditional gift on this milestone occasion.

Children's Toys
-
Bring out their kid at heart with a familiar game like Connect 4, UNO, Sorry!, or even Twister, or with something fun like bubbles, sidewalk chalk, paint-by-numbers or jumprope. No one is ever too old to blow bubbles.
If the birthday boy or girl has grandkids, this gift can double as a fun way to reconnect with them-- but make it clear (to everyone) that the gift is primarily for the 60-year-old and not the 6-year-olds.
Lingerie
-
Just because they're turning 60 doesn't mean their love life is over. In fact, the August 2007 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine included a study showing that men and women enjoy almost the same amount of lovemaking well into their 80s as they did when they were younger. Help them continue to enjoy and celebrate their sexuality with a frisky new piece of lingerie or a pair of silk boxers.

Plastic Surgery
-
By the time they reach 60, most people have at least thought about getting a little assistance with keeping up their appearance--and a gift certificate to a plastic surgeon or medi-spa can be just the ticket to help them feel more confident in their appearance. This gift doesn't have to be used for anything as drastic as a nose job or a facelift; there are many minimal, or non-invasive, procedures like microdermabrasion peels, lasers that reduce brown spots, injectables that help smooth wrinkles and laser hair removal.
Language Tapes
-
The older we get, the more important it is to stretch and challenge our minds. Many people give up on the idea of learning a second language right after high school, but the truth is, it's never too late to learn. Giving a set of language-learning tapes or videos can be a great way to help keep their mind sharp and increase their confidence as they learn a new skill.
