Wholesome Children's Games for the Nintendo 64

The Nintendo 64 has a vast catalog of games that include first-person shooters like "Goldeneye 007" and graphic fighting games like "Mortal Kombat 4." There are however, a variety of games that provide hours of entertainment to children without exposing them to scary or violent images. The following are a few examples of wholesome children's games available for the Nintendo 64.

  1. Elmo's Number Journey

    • "Elmo's Number Journey" was released for the Nintendo 64 in November 1999. Developed by Realtime Associates, it features the fuzzy, red-haired character Elmo from Sesame Street. The player guides Elmo through three different areas, Cookie Monster's world, Count von Count's castle and Ernie's Carnival in the Park. Elmo collects objects that represent numbers in order to solve math problems. There are no enemies to fight, nor is there a clock counting down. Players learn about addition and subtraction throughout the game.

    Tigger's Honey Hunt

    • "Tigger's Honey Hunt" was developed by Doki Denki Studio and released for the Nintendo 64 in November 2000. It features Tigger, the bouncing tiger of Winnie the Pooh fame. The player controls Tigger as he makes his way through nine different levels on the lookout for the honey Winnie the Pooh needs to throw a party. Tigger bounces, jumps and runs throughout forests and caves, avoiding falling boulders and bees. The game contains three mini-games featuring other characters from the Winnie the Pooh world.

    Lego Racers

    • "Lego Racers" was released for the Nintendo 64 in October 1999. Developed by High Voltage Software, the game features the popular children's building blocks in race-car form. The player controls their Lego racer around 13 different tracks, picking up Legos along the way to use as power-ups. The game allows players to customize and build their own cars using different Lego bricks. The player can design the car whichever way they imagine; it doesn't have any effect on their performance on the track.

    Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue!

    • Developed by Traveller's Tales, "Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue!" was released for the Nintendo 64 in November 1999. A 3D platformer, the game features characters and settings from the movie of the same name. The player takes on the role of astronaut Buzz Lightyear as he works his way through five different zones to reunite with his friend Woody. Along the way, Buzz runs into other characters from the film, like Mr. Potato Head, Rex and Bo-Peep. The game features minor cartoon violence, Buzz shooting a laser and moving objects to avoid enemies.
