Birthday Party Ideas for Age 5

Choosing the perfect party theme can be intimidating. If you are planning your child's fifth birthday, there are many options of parties you can plan for varying costs. Depending on your budget and how much planning you want to put into your child's party, you can choose pre-planned parties or do it all yourself, tailoring the party theme to your 5-year-old's likes and interests. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Location-Based

    • If you prefer not to have to hold the party at your house, choose another location. Having your party at a venue not only saves your home from becoming a post-party disaster zone that you have to clean up, but often the staff will plan all the activities for you and provide you with the invitations. Sometimes, they will even provide food, beverages and cake as well, so you do not have to do anything other than show up. There are different kinds of venues to choose from depending on what fits your needs: arcades, miniature golf courses or even inflatable bounce parties.

    Tea Party

    • Little girls often enjoy playing tea party. Invite the guests to come dressed in their favorite dress-up clothes or have a box of clothes for them, including fancy hats, boas and gloves for the girls to dress up in. Make little finger sandwiches and tea for the guests to enjoy. If you want to avoid tea, put apple juice into a fancy tea pot and serve it in tea cups. Or you can plan an "Alice in Wonderland" tea party and play a game of croquet for entertainment.

    Army Party

    • For the little birthday boy, plan an army-themed birthday party, (although little girls can enjoy this theme, too). Decorate the party with camouflage and American flags, and visit army surplus stores for other decorations. For an easy party location, hold it at your local park. Let the guests go through "boot camp" by setting up different stations. Set up a water balloon station where they have to throw water balloons at targets. Tug-of-war is another fun game, as well as an obstacle course. For added fun, you can paint the guest's faces with camouflage prints.
