Polysomnography is the use of technology to analyze sleep through overnight sleep studies. Patients are observed as they sleep hooked up to various machines to diagnose sleep conditions. Since sleep conditions are common, polysomnographic technologists are in high demand. If you'd like to work in this field, there are many polysomnography tech schools to choose from.

  1. Central Florida Institute

    • The Central Florida Institute, located in Palm Harbor, provides an Associate of Applied Science degree in Polysomnographic Technology. They teach students how to detect sleep disorders such as insomnia, seizures and sleep apnea. The program also teaches you how to use such equipment as the electromyogram and the thermistor. CFI even gives advice for becoming certified as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist.

    Texas School of Sleep Medicine & Technology

    • At the Texas School of Sleep Medicine & Technology, students spend 80 hours of instruction learning about the different aspects of sleep, performing sleep studies and learning about patient care. They also provide the opportunity to perform real patient evaluations to get firsthand experience performing polysomnography. The Texas School of Sleep Medicine & Technology is an official American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).

    Stony Brook University Medical Center

    • Through the Stony Brook University Medical Center's School of Health Technology and Management, you can gain an education in Polysomnography Technology. They provide both an Introduction to Polysomnography class as well as an Introduction to Polysomnography Scoring for those beginning their studies in the subject. Stony Brook University Medical Center's program even has a 1-Week Polysomnography Course to develop extra skills for those already in the medical profession.

    Baker College

    • Baker College provides a comprehensive Associate of Applied Science Degree in Polysomnographic Technology. Courses include Patient Preparation, Introduction to Polysomnography and Basic Chemistry. They even offer an internship for those who want real world experience working in the polysomnography field. By completing this degree program, you'll learn everything you need to know to work as a polysomnographic technologist.
