Embroidered Pet Projects
There are a number of great embroidery projects out there to customize your pet's belongings. People's pets are often like family to them, and when gift giving time rolls around, it's not unusual for the pets to get gifts as well. So why not use your pet's blankets and toys as projects to display your embroidery skills.
-
Bandana
-
There is no limit to the number of patterns that can be embroidered into a bandana for your dog to wear. Monograms, names, silly sayings, and designs, like a paw print, are all embroidery project options. You can decorate these items by machine, iron on design, or free hand stitching. Consider making multiple bandanas for special occasions and holidays.
Beds
-
This is especially good in homes with multiple indoor pets. Embroider each pet's name on their personal cushion, bed pillow, blanket or rug.
-
Collars
-
Add a design to your pet's collar. This embroidered design can range from farcical to practical. Add a design like four leaf clovers to the collar for fun, or your name and phone number for more practical purposes.
Toys
-
Make a mouse for your cat by cutting a tear shaped body out of a grey or brown felt. Before stitching it closed, fill the body with catnip. Add triangular ears, and an embroidered face. You can also braid a tail out of embroidery floss. Dogs can enjoy this type of toy if you replace the catnip with a bell and some stuffing. Other suggested shapes for toys are balls, fish, and square pillows made with a slick fabric. Have fun embroidering customized patterns into any of these basic designs.
Wall Hanginings
-
Cross stitch and embroidery patterns are available online for pet lovers. There are wall hangings with fun sayings like "We're staying together for the dog!" or "My cat lets me live here." More advanced embroiderers can use photographs to create cross stitch patterns for portraits of their pets. This project can also be used to memorialize pets who have died.
