Types of Desks
Choosing the right type of desk for your work can make a big difference in your productivity or how others perceive you. There are so many types of desks that choosing one can be overwhelming. Consider the size of your space, the purpose of the desk and your budget before making a decision.
-
Executive desk
-
Executive desks are large and stately, typically made from wood. There is nothing on top of the desk and there should be file cabinets on the sides. In most cases, you'll want to coordinate the desk with other furniture in the room.
Corner Desk
-
Like the name suggests, a corner desk fits into the corner of a room. It can be either a triangle or L-shaped to fit the space. Corner desks work best in situations where there is little space.
-
Cubicle Desk
-
A cubicle desk is simply a table that attaches to cubicle walls. The size varies based on cubicle size--you can put two tables together to form an L-shape, if needed. Use a cubicle desk in situations where you are setting up cubicles for many workers.
Reception Desk
-
The reception desk is the first thing that a person sees when she enters your office. It features a raised front that allows visitors to easily fill out forms or sign papers while affording your receptionist a certain level of privacy.
Secretary Desk
-
A secretary desk is a large piece of furniture. It has drawers on the bottom and the top opens out to form a writing space. You can close it to save space when not in use. It is ideal for writing simple letters, but you wouldn't want to put a desktop computer on it.
Ergonomic Desk
-
Ergonomics is the process of setting objects in the workplace to fit the person working there. With an ergonomic desk, you can easily adjust the height and tilt so that the user is able to work more comfortably.
Roll Top Desk
-
A roll top desk has drawers on either side by the feet, and a top that slides up when you want to use it. This works well in home offices, when you may want to hide your working space at certain times.
Drawing Table
-
A drawing table is the type of desk that architects often use. It is a wide table that can easily fit drawings. Some feature built-in lighting. There should be no drawers attached to the desk.
