Summer Camp
-
Children often get homesick at summer camp, especially if it their first time away from family. Instead of just sending a letter to your child at summer camp, send a care package. Not only will your child appreciate the gift, but he or she will also have fun sharing the goodies inside with camp friends and counselors.
Military
-
Members of the military often have tough days. Whether it be combat, intensive training, or emotionally draining days helping the unfortunate, soldiers can use a little pick-me-up every once in a while. Sending a care package to a soldier lets her know that you are thinking of her and waiting for her to come home. Be careful when sending care packages to the military, because some items are prohibited. For example, you are typically not allowed to send a care package to a soldier going through boot camp. Sending certain items overseas can also be problematic. Check with your local military office or website before sending a care package, to ensure that all items get to your soldier and aren't confiscated en route.

Quitting Smoking
-
Sending a care package to someone trying to to quit smoking is a thoughtful way of boosting spirits. When a smoker tries to quit, he often feels lonely from the void left by his cigarette. A care package, especially one with food, helps a former smoker conquer his cravings and know that he is not alone. Care packages offer the positive reinforcement needed to motivate someone to continue the quest to quit smoking, as difficult as it may be.
College Students
-
College students may appear to be running away from home at times, but every now and again, a little family affection can go a long way. There are two occasions that are prime for sending care packages to college students. The first is a few weeks into the freshman year, when college life is still new and home seems far away. The second time is during final exams. Students studying for finals often pull all-nighters and need a late night snack. Sending a care package full of snacks can help relieve some of the stress on your student's brain, stomach, and wallet.
Recovery
-
Whether recovering from surgery, an injury, or the loss of a loved one, sending a care package can help cheer the gloomiest of souls. Consider visiting the person initially, but sending a care package a few weeks later after most friends and family have come and gone. This shows your friend or family member that you not only care about her when she is hurting the most, but that you also keep her in your thoughts in the days and weeks after the recovery process has begun.
