ATV Trailer Ideas
One of the ideal features about an all-terrain vehicle is its go-anywhere capability. However, many people don't live near off-road trails or rugged terrain that can make the most of an ATV. If this includes you, you'll need a trailer to tow your ATV to a more appropriate site. There are several types of trailers that you can construct or modify yourself depending on your budget.

Flat Beds
-
A flat bed trailer is the simplest way to tow an ATV. This sort of trailer is a simple, flat surface over a pair of wheels. Flat bed trailers offer little or no protection from the elements, though you can easily add wooden sides or cover your ATV with a tarp if you want to keep it clean and safe. One of the biggest challenges with using a flat bed trailer is the need to secure your ATV from rolling. This can be done with a combination of wheel chocks, chains and bungee cords.
Horse Trailer
-
Another solution for towing an ATV is to modify an existing horse trailer. These trailers usually have a built-in ramp for easy loading and provide full protection for your ATV, making them ideal for longer trips or when driving in bad weather. Most horse trailers will be wide enough and more than tall enough to fit an ATV, but once again securing the ATV inside is the greatest challenge. Use bungee cords and wheel chocks that you can affix to the floor of the trailer, since the extra space will give your ATV room to slide around, potentially damaging the trailer or the ATV itself.

Custom Trailer
-
Finally, you may choose to build a custom trailer for your ATV. The best design is a small box trailer that fits tightly around the ATV without giving it much room to move. Build the floor of the trailer with channels for the wheels. This will give you a natural place to insert pegs or attach chains to keep the wheels firmly in place. Another advantage of a custom ATV trailer is the ability to build in storage for other accessories such as an auxiliary gas can, repair kit and safety gear such as helmets and body pads.
