According to an MSN Health & Fitness article, "The Truth About Energy Drinks," SoBe Adrenaline Rush is the worst of five drinks mentioned. SoBe's claims about the drink are similar to other energy drinks: that it gives you energy and helps you power through those long days. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Caffeine

    • Each 16-ounce serving of Adrenaline Rush contains 152 mg of caffeine. Caffeine has many documented side effects, which, according to Drugs.com, can include dizziness, irritability, nausea, nervousness, restlessness.

    D-ribose and l-carnitine

    • These are naturally occurring substances that your body uses to metabolize food. Research on carnatine cited by MSN Heath & Fitness suggests that it may help after exercise, but neither has been shown to improve either energy or performance. However, it is not harmful, and has no known or serious side effects.

    Sugars

    • Sixteen ounces of Adrenaline Rush contains 66 grams of sugar, which does indeed give you energy, but it doesn't last. The main side effects of large amounts of sugar are blood sugar spiking, blood sugar plummeting soon thereafter and, over time, weight gain.

    Warnings

    • If you are diabetic, the MSN article suggests avoiding Adrenaline Rush, as its high sugar content puts you at risk. Do not mix Adrenaline Rush with alcohol.
