Online Colleges for Cosmetology

Cosmetology is the study of beauty treatments. Hair styling, nail maintenance, and facials are the broad categories that define it. There aren't online cosmetology schools because a key factor in becoming a cosmetologist is hands-on training experience. However, there are a few online resources for cosmetology that include materials to prepare for state exams, license renewal, and one online program for business cosmetology that is for previously licensed cosmetologists.

  1. Milady Online

    • Milady Online offers exam preparation services, not unlike The Princeton Review. You can enroll to receive their state licensing preparation materials in print or via the Internet. The cosmetology book includes thirty-two chapters covering everything from skin structure and growth to seeking employment. In addition, the materials also include practice exams.

    Minnesota School of Business/Globe College

    • The Minnesota School of Business offers a cosmetology business degree, which prepares the student for supervising a salon, starting a cosmetology business, or working as a market professional within the industry. This program has a 95 percent placement rate (the percentage of students who find work after graduation). There is a scholarship available for those who graduated from the Minnesota School of Cosmetology, a brick and mortar program. The cosmetology business degree is for licensed cosmetology professionals only.

    Cosmetology Campus Website

    • Visit cosmetologycampus.com to find individual certification courses and materials available for license renewal. Because license requirements differ by state, cosmetology campus only offers renewal packages for Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Nebraska, Ohio, and Texas. Individual courses are available in subjects such as Electric Nail File, Pedicure Essentials, and Blood Borne Pathogens. You can build up your certification through some of their courses, but they are not an accredited school that offers a full certification program.
