Crafts With Patio Pavers

Save

Patio pavers are made from several materials, including stone and brick. They also come in a wide range of shapes, from a basic circle to more elaborate serpent and keyhole shapes. The variety of patio pavers allows them to serve as blank canvases for many craft projects. Using patio pavers, you can make decorative as well as practical craft items.

Painted Doorstop

  • A patio paver made of brick or stone is the right weight for propping open a door. Paint the stone any color or design you wish. If the doorstop will be used outside, be sure to use an exterior paint.

Garden or Porch Decoration

  • Patio pavers that have a round part and a square part are great to use to make outdoor decorations. You can decorate the pavers so that they look like people or animals. You can make a paver for each season, such as a scarecrow or pumpkin for fall, and a jolly Santa for winter. If you put them outdoors, be sure to use a paint that can withstand the weather. Embellish the pavers with details such as hay if you make a scarecrow or a carrot-like nose for a snowman. These decorated pavers can live on a porch and greet visitors to your house. You can also paint a rectangular patio paver with a garden theme or slogan and use it as a stepping stone in your garden.

Outdoor Furniture

  • Martha Stewart has an idea for making a small outdoor table using a large patio stone and an overturned flowerpot. She suggests simply placing the paving stone on top of the upside down pot. As long as the table remains on a steady, flat surface, the stone's weight will keep it in place. You can paint the paver if you like to give the table a bit of flair.

Candles

  • If you find concrete pavers that have small holes throughout or decorative cutouts, you can fill the cutouts with wax and make candles. Protect your work surface with cardboard. Trim the wick so that is about a half inch longer than the height of the paver. Place the wick in the center of the cutout. Melt the wax and pour it into the cutout to fill. Allow the wax to harden.
