Forty miles from the George Washington Bridge in New York City, Tuxedo is situated in the Ramapo Mountains and home to two state parks containing lakes and pristine woodland. The MTA Metro-North commuter railroad has a stop in Tuxedo on its Port Jervis line, making the town easily accessible from Penn Station in Manhattan.

  1. New York Renaissance Faire

    • In summer, visitors can experience the illusion of stepping centuries back in time at the New York Renaissance Faire in Tuxedo. Beginning in early August and running through late September, the fair offers many music, comedy and dramatic performances by actors in medieval costumes, including jousting duels. There are also period-themed rides, games and food, as well as an artisan marketplace.

    Tuxedo Ridge at Sterling Forest

    • During the winter months, the Tuxedo Ridge resort offers skiing and snowboarding on the closest slopes to New York City. When the natural snow isn't accumulating, the resort has its own snow-making capabilities. Snow tubing is another popular wintertime activity. Tuxedo Ridge is also open in the summer months for hiking, biking and RV camping. Tent camping is offered for those attending the popular summer concert series.

    State Parks

    • Tuxedo is home to two New York State Parks. Sterling Forest and Harriman. Sterling Forest covers nearly 22,000 acres and offers hiking and biking trails as well as a lake where fishing is allowed. Harriman State Park is one of the largest state parks in New York, with multiple lakes and reservoirs in an area that spreads over two counties. There are 200 miles of hiking trails in the park and three beaches. Both parks are notable for being home to a wide array of migratory and resident wildlife species as well as a watershed area for millions of people in nearby population centers.
