Log Cabin Experiences
Enjoy the rustic ambiance of a vintage log cabin. Houghton Lake Hideaway in the community of Houghton Lake sits along the state's largest inland lake. It offers two pet-friendly cabins. Available spring through fall, the cabins sleep up to four people. They provide a kitchen, bathroom, television, grill and picnic table. Small dogs are welcome but guests must pay an extra cleaning fee. From May to November, Wes Point Shores Resort near Alpena offers one-, two- and three-bedroom fully furnished cabins along Lake Winyah. Each cabin has a dock with a 14-foot boat included in the rental price, a fire pit and firewood. Guests are asked to keep pets off the furniture and to restrain them when outdoors. Both resorts book by the night or week.
A Pet-Friendly Island Stay
The year-round Wa-Wen Resort on Lake Huron's Drummond Island welcomes pets to its family-oriented facility. The second largest freshwater island in the country, family recreation at Drummond includes fishing, boating, scuba diving and snowmobiling. Furnished two- and three-bedroom cabins offer accommodations for up to 10 people. They provide a water view, front porch, picnic table and grill. Guests enjoy free use of canoes, kayaks and paddleboats. Pet owners are required to clean up after their pet and keep animals leashed. There is an additional fee for pets.
Cabins and Corral
Vacation with your horse at the Upper Peninsula's Kenbuck Resort. The year-round resort at Wetmore near Munising provides corrals for horses at no charge. The resort nestles in the deep woods near the 26-mile Pine Marten Run horse trail. Located within the Hiawatha National Forest, 100 lakes lie within 10 miles of Kenbuck, providing fishing and boating adventures. National forest trails also welcome hiking and cross-country skiing. Four two-bedroom cabins and one three-bedroom cabin provide differing amenities. Units include use of a boat, a fire pit, picnic table, grill and fish cleaning house. Small pets are welcome to stay at Kenbuck.
Play Options for Guests and Pets
Not only are pets welcome at the Petoskey KOA RV and Cabin Resort, they have their own playground complete with an agility course. The 30-acre resort near Lake Michigan offers two pet-friendly cabins that sleep up to four people and one cabin that can accommodate up to six guests. Available May to October, the cabins provide full baths and kitchens. On-site activities include scavenger hunts, cooking classes, a painting school and crafts, basketball, volleyball, Saturday pancake breakfasts, a pool and a hot tub for relaxing. Pet owners are asked to keep animals leashed, not leave them unattended and to clean up after their furry friends.
