Supplies for Party Games
Whether you're hosting a child's birthday party, graduation festivities or a holiday event, prepare for impromptu games and activities that will keep your friends and family entertained. Gather an assortment of household items and party supplies so you'll be able to organize a variety of contests, relay races and treasure hunts to suit the party theme and the activity level of the guests.

Craft Supplies
-
Keep a stash of basic craft materials like colored card stock, markers, tape, white glue and stickers on hand. Basic card stock can become game scorecards, "bases" for an indoor baseball game and directional signs to hang on the wall with tape.
Use stickers to create a "pin the tail on the donkey" game using a sticker as the "tail" that players must position as close to a target as possible. You can also place 20 to 30 stickers around your house as a quick sticker treasure hunt, awarding a prize to the guest who finds the most stickers in one minute.
Bean Bags and Baskets
-
Create simple tossing or catching party games by gathering an assortment of containers like laundry baskets, plastic tubs, shoeboxes and wicker baskets. Use colorful bean bags, small stuffed animals, inflated balloons, foam balls or wads of aluminum foil as the "balls" to throw into the containers.
You can also use plastic tubs to organize contests like bobbing for apples or shoeboxes to design a mystery game that requires the players to guess the item inside the box just by shaking it.
Use bean bags and balloons to play other party activities such as "hot potato" or hold a water balloon toss outdoors. Create a target contest that allows players to knock down recycled water bottles with foam balls or play a hide and seek-style game by hiding foam balls around the house for the guests to find.
Musical Items
-
Turn to musical game supplies such as toy instruments, compact discs or music video DVDs to not only provide background music for the party, but also help the guests play games like "freeze dance" that requires the players to stop dancing immediately when the song stops. Play compact discs during games like "musical chairs" and use toy instruments like a child's piano or kazoos to play "name that tune" to see who can be the first to guess the song you're playing.
Costumes and Props
-
Gather an assortment of household items that guests can use to make up skits or play charades. You can also organize a dress-up relay race that requires team members to run across the room, put on all of the clothes or fashion accessories on the table, take everything off and run back to tag the next teammate in line.
Use a laundry basket to hold items that guests can use as costumes or skit props like oversized t-shirts, button-down shirts, hats, sunglasses, costume jewelry, kitchen gadgets, sports equipment or children's toys and stuffed animals.
