The right display in retail can help highlight a particular product and subsequently increase its sales. Having a unique retail display is critical in boosting the visual appeal and revenue of a store. Retail business owners know the importance of their displays, but over time they can find themselves running dry when it comes to ideas. Fortunately, there are plenty of innovative ideas out there to help with a needed creative spark.
Get Creative with Furniture
It's difficult, though not impossible, to create innovative, eye-catching retail displays when all you have to work with are standard institutional shelving and fluorescent lighting. Scour flea markets, thrift stores or garage sales for unique pieces of furniture that you can adapt to your retail space. End tables, coffee tables, dinette tables, antique armoires and kitchen hutches are just a few of the possibilities that might transition easily into retail use. It helps to have a theme in mind before you start looking, although many retailers like a more eclectic collection.
Choose Lighting that Can Enhance Your Products
The addition of a unique side lamp on a display table can create a soft and inviting warmth that entices customers to investigate the products around it. Tract lighting is great for highlighting special pieces of artwork on walls or even a fashionable, put-together mannequin. The right lighting can draw attention to the most important areas of interest in your retail display, so be creative and unique.
Layer Multiples of Items
Many displays feature a smattering of individual items that customers can pick up and buy right off the display. Later, you have to come back and restock that item. By layering multiples of the same item, you can create more visual interest and encourage more buying because a customer knows they're not taking the last one.
Utilize Alternative Fixtures
Instead of hanging items on hooks, consider layering them on decorative curtain rods or towel racks. These are relatively inexpensive and easy to install and can be coordinated with the theme of other furniture in your store. Empty picture frames are a good way to display smaller items like jewelry, or you could use them to subtly display your store brand.
Find Inspiration in Seasonal Traditions
While you don't want to overuse seasonal or holiday decorations, a tasteful inclusion of these in the planning of your retail displays can bring new interest to old products. Try not to use a great deal of seasonal decorations, but rather, plan displays around what products would be appropriate for that particular season or holiday.
