Jewish Crafts for Children
Whether you want to celebrate Hanukkah, Passover or Purim, Jewish crafts for children can help your kids get into the spirit. Choose Jewish crafts that relate to the Bible to reinforce understanding of Biblical stories. Whatever the ages of your children, you can find a number of crafts for Jewish kids that the whole family can enjoy.
-
Paper Tube Menorah
-
Create a paper menorah from paper tubes. Use eight short toilet paper tubes and one paper towel tube. You can decorate the tubes with paint or by covering them with colored paper. The tall paper towel tube should be silver or gray, with four smaller blue tubes on either side. Glue yellow tissue paper at the top to look like a flame.
Joseph's Coat
-
Joseph had a coat of many colors and you can create a coat for Joseph many different ways. With younger children, have them color several different small pieces of paper, then patch them together in the shape of a coat. Older children many enjoy sewing real fabric, either by hand or machine.
-
Craft Stick Star of David
-
Use craft sticks and glue to form a Star of David with interlocking triangles. You can then use this as a simple decoration to hang in a window or on your wall. You can also use it as a table decoration, creating one for each person at the meal, or use the Star of David as a napkin holder. Have your children paint or use glitter on their Star of David to make it more decorative.
Hanukkah Candle Holders
-
Decorate plain glass votive holders for Hanukkah. Use glue with blue and white beads or glitter. Another idea is to cover the candle with craft clay, using a Hanukkah-themed design and bake in the oven to dry.
Basket Weaving
-
Help the children create a basket to tie in with the story of Moses. Cut slats in a piece of construction paper and then weave a different color paper through it. You can then turn this paper into a basket, or you can glue the paper onto a milk carton, which will produce a sturdier basket.
